Had in Mind 03:49
It's been decided, in recognition, That all the fallen hours were only ours. Every second passing by is one less thought of what I had in mind. Should I write you a letter? Just to admit I was wrong to be passive as a boy. I'm not your man. I know my own fetters, And I know who pulls me out of all the fallen hours, that were only ours. Every turn we're taking home is one less question if we were alone.

Locality 02:23
I found the problem of my open heart, Where it individually breaks apart. Below reproach, I stop throwing blame Because it always returns to me in heavy rain. I heard this humming when I rode by your house, I know I never really figured you out. Below reproach, I learned who to blame. They ignored who they were hurting and they have my name. I thought you'd be lucky being known at all, then to find he waits on us always where we are. (He was raised from the dead, so lift up your head)

I miss that swing set in your backyard. Us kids got bruises 'til it got dark. All in my head, the world wouldn't change. I daydreamed my life through a windowpane. Why can't I be over this? Storms form from the rain I miss. But every night I lose some sight of you in my mind. Wake me up early on Saturday morning, I ease down the stairs to find the neighbors in mourning. All in my head, the world wouldn't change. After your passing, well I'm not the same. Someday I'll be over this, Standing below skies I miss. But every night I lose some sight of you in my mind. I'll wait a few years, and then I'll see you again. I'll see you again.

about

These are demos. I wrote upwards of 50 songs for "Walk Home Instead." These three songs never made it any further than the demo stage. That said, I still feel compelled to share them. All three of these songs were written and recorded in 2015.

I try and flesh out demos as much as possible, so I have good blueprints to work from later on. I had multiple burned CD's of demos, which sat in a box for a long time while the record was in an idle phase. Once we started mixing for the record, I pulled out those demo CD's to have something to reference. I had honestly forgotten about these three songs for a while. I haven't bothered recreating them in a higher fidelity because I don't think that I can recapture the same feeling from these first recordings. So, here they are, as they were left three years ago.

This is what the process looks like for me. I'm sure I reworked these particular demos a few times over before I let them rest-- and that's even more true of the songs that will actually be on the record. This was around the time I began trying a more intricate, layered approach to vocal harmonies. Some attempts are more successful than others! It's been a fun learning experience, regardless.

Thank you for listening to these song sketches.
